National Seminar 2018

The 2018 National Seminar will take place in Quebec City, Quebec from Wednesday, September 26th to Monday, October 1st, 2018.  Please note that the 26th and the 1st are travel days.

The theme for this year’s seminar is Self-Assertion of a Nation through Its Culture. This particular theme is important because it addresses diversification as a part of our history and heritage. The theme is about the responsibilities of individual “nations” within the country to emerge as “Canadian” via an exploration of the diversity of cultures and how they are defined. This is a challenging and interesting concept that we might want to simply call “Nationhood”.

Each Member has been assigned a total for their attendees to the Seminar. Based on the number assigned to you, please select in this order, one delegate for each of the three linguistic categories;(French; Bilingual and English) if you have remaining spots choose the next one from either French or Bilingual and the remaining spots from any category. Should you require additional spots, you may request them and every effort will be made to accommodate your request.

The 2018 Quebec City invitation can be found here!

Tentative Schedule can be found here!

You will receive the link for registering from your provincial organization.  The following deadlines are in effect:

  • Online registration by June 5th, 2018.  Allocated spots not used by then will be given to provinces waiting for extra spots
  • If you are planning to attend the 2018 National Seminar from September 26th to October 1st, 2018 in Quebec, hosted by ADDEQ and the Canadian Student Debating Federation. The waivers you sign online when registering applies to the 2018 National Seminar as hosted from September 26th to October 1st, 2018. Each provincial delegation is responsible for their own delegation during this time. The host province, nor the CSDF does not take responsibility for anyone as per the waivers and we understand that you accept our position on this matter.
  • Payment deadline is July 1st, 2018.  We would appreciate one payment per province for all delegates and your official chaperone

The CSDF and our Host Province could not provide such a unique experience for students and chaperones without the generous support of our sponsors.

As for previous Seminars, the CSDF has secured a grant from the Government of Canada’s Exchanges Canada program which will subsidize travel costs for delegates, as well as one adult per province or territory.  This generous contribution will allow many students who could otherwise attend for financial reasons to participate in the Seminar.
